With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Linda (Black) Barnes on July 7, 2026 at the age of 79. Linda was born to James Hillman Black and Ethel Lucy Capell and was a native of the Edna Hill community. She described her childhood as one of the deep family roots and community and often spoke of time spent on the farm, her childhood pets, and most of all, spending time with her beloved Daddy.

 After graduating from Tarleton University, she taught in Midland, the city where she met her husband, Fred Barnes. During their 50 plus years of marriage, they were a model of commitment and love to each other as well as family and friends. In her middle to later years, Linda often spent time volunteering for the various communities she lived in. Linda is remembered for being a friendly, smart lady who loved her family and had a beautiful laugh and smile. She is preceded in death by her parents, other beloved Aunts and Uncles, such as Herbert Black, and her brother, James Black. Linda Barnes is survived by her husband, Fred Barnes, and children, Kimber Martin, Rick(ie) Barnes, and Keri Redford, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 Graveside services will be held on July 11, 2026 at Barbee Cemetery in Edna Hill, Texas. In leu of flowers and if so inclined, please consider a donation to the Barbee Cemetery to assist with their ongoing maintenance. The 501 (c)(3) has a mailing address of 5105 Streamwood Lane, Plano, TX 75093.
